What Is API 5L Line Pipe?
API 5L is the American Petroleum Institute specification for line pipe, covering seamless and welded pipe in two product specification levels: PSL1 (standard quality) and PSL2 (higher quality with additional testing and controlled chemistry). Line pipe grades range from Grade B to X70 and higher, where the "X" number indicates the minimum yield strength in ksi. For example, X52 has a minimum yield strength of 52,000 psi.

What is the difference between PSL1 and PSL2 line pipe?
PSL2 has stricter requirements for chemical composition (including carbon equivalent limits), toughness testing, NDT and maximum yield strength. PSL2 is typically required for sour service and high-pressure gas transmission, while PSL1 is sufficient for many water and low-pressure applications.
